New Series - Managing Your Compensation All Year Long

I have seen lots of information - and misinformation - about "how to ask for raises" or "how to ask for a promotion" or "how to get a bigger bonus".

The information isn't completely wrong - but it isn't actually accurate (or as helpful as it can be). As you probably know by now, I design compensation programs for companies. For >24 years, I have worked with F50's to startups in all industries. This includes training managers on setting goals, managing performance and discussing compensation. The important message is that these discussions are much much much LESS effective if they happen in isolation.

If you only talk to your boss 2x a year about your personal career goals, you will be much less likely to get the raise you think you deserve (even if you document your performance, prepare and list all the reasons why you deserve it) than if you actively engage in these discussions all year long.

To help people really understand how to actively manage their career from a compensation (and promotion) standpoint, I am starting a new series in 2020. Most companies work on a calendar year. That means they have ALREADY MADE their pay decisions for 2020 that will be communicated in the next month or so. You can try talking to your boss now - I am not suggesting you don't - but it can be a sad story of "too little too late" for 2019.

BUT THERE IS HOPE!

On the first Friday of every month for the ENTIRE year, I will post an article on the types of discussions you should be having with your boss(es) that month. That's right - I will give you the context, content and construct you need to feel comfortable discussing your role, your goals, your contributions, your challenges (!!!) and your opportunities.

Within one year, you will significantly IMPROVE:

1. How you are perceived
2. Your ability to achieve your goals successfully
3. Your manager's understanding of your contributions
4. Your relationship WITH your manager
5. Your career progression - getting your closer to your next role/promotion
6. Your ability to earn a higher raise and BIGGER bonus (if you are eligible)
7. Your leadership skillset and communication skills

SIGN UP NOW.
I highly encourage you to sign up now so you can be alerted as soon as the post is published.

Within one year, you will be more comfortable in your role, closer to a promotion and more likely to get the raise and bonus you deserve.

Until then - enjoy the holidays.
