Who is Telling The Truth? Katie Couric or Ann Curry

Katie Couric claims she didn't know about Matt Lauer's behavior.  Ann Curry says everyone knew - and, even worse - it would be difficult NOT to know.

So who is telling the truth?

I believe Ann.  I believe Ann because Ann isn't the only one who says that everyone knew.  Ann isn't the only one who says everyone knew about Matt, the culture or leadership's blind eye towards Matt's behavior.

And I am disappointed.

I. AM. SO. DISAPPOINTED.

First, Katie took over a month to respond.  She didn't come out as a leader of women, protecting other women, or using her position of power (which she admits to in the interview below) or protect other women.  She protected herself and was part of the culture that turned a blind eye.  I do not for one second believe Matt was a perfect gentlemen with Katie (we all know about his cheeky remarks to her on air) but a perv with everyone else.

I. AM. SO. DISAPPOINTED.

And I know why - she is protecting herself and her legacy and her income.  She is walking a fine line between saying that Matt's behavior was unacceptable but that she also didn't know.  Why is she walking that line?  Because if she admits she KNEW, then she is culpable - she didn't do anything to stop it.  She didn't blow the whistle.  She didn't protect other women.  She didn't act like a leader.

She let other women down.  And by doing that, she tarnished her reputation.  She is trying hard to save her reputation and being seen as a promoter of the #metoo movement.  So she is speaking in ambiguities and living in the grey.

And I. AM. SO. DISAPPOINTED.

Why not have a mea culpa?  Why not say - she didn't WANT to see it?  She didn't WANT to believe it or, potentially, even if we give her grace and accept the fact she didn't see it, then why not say she should have seen it and done something about it?

She isn't leading.  She isn't succeeding.  She isn't helping.  She is throwing Ann Curry under the bus.  Again.
