Without further ado, let's get started.
1. James Comey publicity tour.
I've struggled with this one a little. First, Comey and I went to the same high school (I went YEARS after him of course!) and I think the FBI Director role has to be complicated, complex and stress-filled. I don't envy the person in that role.
At the same time, it seems that the person filling that role - THROUGHOUT HISTORY - has heard and seen things that can and should remain confidential. In fact, it seems the ability to maintain confidentiality should be the #1 skill requirement for the FBI Director. So, regardless of who you voted for or your political leanings, I think penning a Tell All book a few months after you leave a highly coveted political office that mandates confidentiality is a career-breaker.
Cause who is going to hire him now? Maybe as a consultant for the Democratic party - but certainly no other job that requires security clearance.
And maybe that is why he had to write the book....to make some money.
2. Wells Fargo Leadership Team
I am not sure who is in charge but it might be time for some new blood. Certainly, the people in charge of the sales incentive plan that was "gamed" by employees who created false accounts should be fired. Certainly the immediate managers who didn't (or turned a blind eye) see what their employees were doing should be fired. And a few executives have already been terminated. But eventually, that means the culture is in question and full of loopholes, dishonesty and ultra competitiveness. There are inherent issue within the culture causing people to act unethically.
And today they were fined $1Billion for their mishaps and bad leadership.
Oops.
3. Starbucks' Policies that Motivated Employees to Call the Police
Starbucks is facing negative press for the Philly employees who called the police. The African American customers were arrested and removed from the store because they hadn't bought their double mocha frap yet.
Is the employee to blame? Absolutely. But the real question is WHY did that employee call? Is it just cultural or does Starbucks have to review its policies regarding its customers. I vote both. Starbucks is closing all stores early on May 29 to have diversity training. Sure, that is part of the issue but so is there store policy. Presumably, you have to buy a drink to loiter at all in a Starbucks. And, presumably, you will be thrown out if you don't - at least if you are African American.
Starbucks needs to have diversity training AND rethink its policies and how they are (or are not) enforced.
