Friday Roundup: This Week's Top 3 Career Makers

Before I get started, I want to give a big shout out to everyone that works in hospitals.  I spent the morning there and am so grateful for all the wonderful people I met throughout my journey - from pre-registration, to registration, to all the technicians, staff, nurses and doctors.  Everyone was so pleasant and kind and when you are the one in the bed, you realize how important it is to have caring people around you.

Thank you!

Ok - now, for this week's top 3 career-makers:

1. Don't accept that job offer without answering whether the company can get you where you want to go

Yes - you may love the job and the people.  But have you figured out if the company can promote you - give you more responsibilities - grow your skillset and help you develop?  What do your next 2 or 3 jobs look like?  Can this company get you there?  Make sure to answer these questions before signing on the dotted line.

2.  Learn how to interview - AFTER BEING FIRED - and get the job you want

Getting fired sucks.  And if you don't learn how to get over it, the right way to interview and how to answer those tough interview questions (like "why were you fired!") then getting the next job will be hard.  Really hard.

3. Write your own performance review the "RIGHT" way to show leadership and get yourself to the next level

Writing your own performance review isn't easy.  So if you have to do it, take the time to do it right.  Use the STAR technique, add your observations and make sure you link your results to the business outcomes.  Don't forget to add what you learned and what you will do differently next time to improve your results.

Enjoy your weekend!
